De Splat

Rumor has it-
Alexandre Desplat will be scoring the music to Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr.Fox!

Music makes up life. My cherished memories are as fluid as the simple notes of Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1. My greatest turns in life are as triumphant as Handel's Sarabande. I get ridiculously excited when great filmmakers and composers team up to create for the rest of us.

Oscar Season

I left my night class earlier tonight because I was dying from sickness. I keep thinking that it's almost Friday.

I usually take time to evaluate films and predict the Oscar winners. Last year, I was pretty close... got about 2 or 3 categories wrong. I was mostly disappointed when The Diving Bell & the Butterfly didn't win anything. About 2 months prior to the awards, I posted a piano cover of the song Falling Slowly from Once. The day after the Oscars (when it won for best original song), my view count went up to about 20,000, haha.

I don't like how all the films hungrily bunched up during this season. Everyone is desperate to win. All the good people already got their praise (ie. Danny Boyle, Sean Penn but enough is enough!) The upcoming awards show is just getting redundant now.

My thoughts sloppily noted:
1. Man on Wire is great.
2. The Wrestler is my favorite out of this bunch.
3. Michael Shannon is amazing.
4. Meryl Streep/Viola Davis makes a great team.
5. Hair & Makeup goes to Benjamin Button. I thought The Reader was a joke.
6. Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack is so good!
7. Gus and Darren are as always, awesome.
8. Brad Pitt... hilarious in Burn After Reading.

I'm really excited to see Hugh Jackman! haha.

Semester backstroke

I love backstroking! I don't have to worry about breathing under water or choking on that chlorine crap. All I have to do is stare at the ceiling up ahead, stroke and kick! I can do it for hours (yeah right) and not think at the same time. Then before I know it I'm passing by that clock hanging on the wall, which tells me that I'm close to the end of the pool. Take a look at the entry title and guess what I'm drawing this analogy to. Less than 3 more months, WTF.

Did I mention how much I hate the suburbs? I feel like I'm being swallowed by a blue stomach with slimy gooky shit crawling into my ears. And I hate storming home in the cold.

Bird streaming on NPR

brooklynvegan

Listening live now to Andrew Bird & Lonely Dear in concert from the 9:30 Club in D.C.

This show was one of the places I considered going to when I couldn't get his Carnegie Hall tickets in New York. Just when I accepted the fact that going to Bird's show wasn't meant to be, I had a dream about him. In the dream I was in an auditorium, a bit early for a concert. Andrew came out and tuned his violin while the rest of the crew were doing sound checks and last minute preparations. Unfortunately, I woke up a bit too early.

A few days later, I found out he was opening a second show due to high demand! Whoo-hoo! haha. The show was great. And he looks good in every angle, by the way.
